Just finished watching the American Masters series installment on Jimi Hendrix and it was awesome!
Lovingly produced with all the film history you could ask for and much more.
The highlights for me were interviews with folks like Paul McCartney and Hendrix's family and close friends. But most of all, Eddie Kramer (engineered most of Hendrix's albums).
Kramer even illustrates how some of the guitar sounds were mixed, rolling an original session tape from Electric Ladyland and pulling up the faders on the 3 guitar tracks that were mixed to create the sound.
Fantastic stuff and not to be missed!

I agree.  I watched it last night and stayed up later than I should have.  The whole thing was very well done and informative.  Good stuff!
