problem with trs tip voltage [resolved]

Hey all, just completed resistance and voltage checks, everything reads as it should. So I power down for 5 mins then power up again at the same time as i'm touching the red tip of the meter to the top (ring) terminal of the trs jack.  I still have the black ground lead on terminal 12.

The reading fluctuates somewhat wildly, way over 9v. So I take the tip off and and make contact again, this time the meter fluctuates over 9v, then settles on 000.3. I have reflowed the connections around the trs terminals, maybe a little too much solder but the joints look nice and shiny and feel solid. The leds are both lighting up if thats relevant. Argh!!! Any suggestions, knowledgeable people?? Thanks in advance!

What did you get the first time? 

5 minutes is likely not enough to completely cool off a 6080.

Ok so waited until it was completely cooled down, then while touchng the red lead to the tip terminal of trs jack I switched it on. The readings fluctuated way over 9v, didnt come down to 0. So I esablished contact with another part of the tip terminal. This time the readings went way over 9v, but settled on 000.0. Is this ok? I think it mightn't be!

I made contact with another part of the tip terminal, thinking I might make better contact with the wire and the terminal. Does breaking the contact the first time mess up the initial reading?

Sorry about this, but the fluctuations are all in the Milli volts range. I can manage to get a reading on the tip of 0 if I make contact with various areas of the terminal until I get 0. This is the same with the ring terminal.

1 Millivolt is 0.001V.  A couple millivolts on the headphone jack can be ignored.

Okay so even if it's fluctuating in the high 60s  of milli volts and returning to 000.3 m volts, it's okay to proceed with headphones? Sorry just want to be sure!

Yeah, that's 0.060-0.0003V, nothing that a headphone would be bothered by.

Oh my...just fired up the crack for the first time. IT WORKS!! What a lovely sound! So satisfied. Thanks for all your help bottleheadians!! EXCELLENT! Compared to the sound from my rotel integrated the crack is open with great spatiality and presence.
