teac a3300sx

My friend has a Teac a3300sx in very good condition.  Back in the day I had an Akai GX 635D and do miss it once in awhile.  Is the Teac worth considering?  I'm going to have to knock a wall down to get space for it but I thought I'd ask the group before jumping into R2R again.

I would say yes!  The electronics and transport look like the Teac I had back in the early 70s.  Mine, can't remember the number, was a 7" reel and the 4400 is the 10" reel version. 

Even better if Bottlehead has some tweaks for it, or a Reduction head amp waiting to be released.

Assuming it is the 7", 3.75/7.5 ips 1/4 track version - if you want to listen to ebay finds or just play with recording it would be a nice deck. The format that my partners and I have established as the current favorite is 15 ips 2 track tape with IEC/CCIR playback equalization, on 10" reels. So unless it is the 2T version that deck will not play Tape Project albums or most of the other recently released tapes that have become available from other individuals since we started the Project. Even if it is the 2T version it does not have IEC playback EQ and the sound would be compromised on the above mentioned tapes without modification of the EQ circuit.
