I have a minor bug on my Sex, I think it is most probably noting to do with the Sex kit its self but wanted to run the problem experienced past you guys.

I used a cheap pair of phones for testing and later my T1's for listening with both phones the sex works perfectly switching between speakers and headphones the speakers automatically turn off when the headphone jack is inserted. Yesterday I tried my Beyerdynamic DT770 and while the sound comes out of the headphones the speakers also stay on.

Looking at the jack on the DT770 it is maybe 0.5-1mm shorter than the jacks on the other phones I suspect this is the likely cause. I wondered if a connection on the headphone socket might be tweaked to try and remedy this?

Hi Jamie,

I may be totally off base here, but it looks like the S.E.X. uses the same headphone jack as the Crack. I had a problem with the switching function on my Crack, and it was due to the switch itself not making proper contact with no headphone plugged in.

Refer to the photo at the bottom where you can see the problem on the centre switch.

Josh advised that I just bend the switch back, and I was able to do it by hand. Can you plug in both your T1s and the DT770s and if you can see any difference on where the switches sit? If so, you might just be able to bend them in place.

Do both speakers stay on?

If so, the only way that I can see that happening is to be using a 1/4" plug that's quite a bit smaller in diameter than 1/4".

If just the left speaker stays on, it's then maybe just an issue of the tip being a strange size.

Ok well I can confirm only one speaker stay on so that has narrows it down thanks on closer inspection of the jacks the tip on the one I have the problem is actually a different shape in addition to being a fraction small to the others its profile being more pointy. I will have a look at tweaking the socket later. I don't plan on keeping the DT770's for long so not to worried about it.

Cheers

Ok cool, PB's post confirmed that my thinking was right, and I was going to give a rather detailed explanation, but this makes it much easier.

Can you test the DT770s on your Crack? Mine work fine there, and the headphone jack looks exactly the same.

You may be able to bend the top (as in the picture on my link) switch to get it to disconnect with the headphones plugged in, but you will need to ensure that it engages again when the headphone is plugged out. Really odd problem though. I use a right angle connector on my headphone jack. Headphones plug straight into it. That may also solve your problem.

This is not a valid test with the Crack.  (There aren't any speaker outs to turn off)

Yeah, you're right. I meant he can physically inspect whether the switch disengages with the DT770s plugged in. It is quite easy to see with the naked eye.
