After starting with the Hd650's with the stock crack, I have done an immense amount of modding since and finally feel that I've found my ideal set up so I thought I'd share. I have since upgraded to the HD800's and only run the Bendix 6080wb slotted cross column graphite plates with either the RCA 5687 (for more rock oriented music) or the Amperex 7119 PQ (for jazz and less in-your-face music). The mods on my crack are:

-Speedball Constant Current Source Upgrade
-Dayton 100uF 250V Polypropylene Film Output Capacitor Upgrade
-PEC Volume Potentiometer Replacement
-Obligato 2.2uF 600V Polypropylene Film Power Supply Capacitor Bypass
-Russian Teflon K72P6 .056uF 500V Output Capacitor Bypass
-E80CC/12BH7A/5687 Variable Pinout & Resistance Mod
-Choke Inducer Upgrade on Output Supply (Oblong resistor replaced)
-Dayton 90uF 250V Polypropylene Film Output Supply Capacitor Upgrade
-Russian Teflon K75-10 4.7uF 250V Output Capacitor Bypass

To me, the significant mods besides the speedball were upgrading the output caps, replacing the pot, and retrofitting for the 5687 (made the biggest improvement). If you're running the hd800's I highly recommend my path of upgrade! Happy modding bottlehead!

I'm looking at a solution to get an E80CC into my crack right now.

Your Dayton MF seems like a different way to go rather than a simple bypass of the original 220uF Panasonic. I'm just using 3x0.3uF Russian Teflon K72s as a bypass. I found them to be more pronounced than changing out the output caps to MF 250V 100uF Mcaps.

Your hulking look of the double bypass on the output caps is just hilarious. :)

I originally started with a bypass at the 220uf Panasonic with a Obligato 2.2uf film cap but once i installed the choke and replaced the cap, lower end detailing and textures improved immensely. The obligato is still there (hidden next to the dayton 90uf) and is used to bypass the 90uf dayton at power supply.

Hulking is definitely the right word, my crack looks cracked out haha
