Hi !

I see a lot of modded cracks with new different caps and pots.
Is that right that getting other types of capacitor can change sound ? And if so what kind of capacitors do you advise me to get ? I'm looking to tame the trebles as I'm using my Crack with a HD800. (I've tried tube rolling with some success but I'm still not satisfied for some popular mixes)
Also is there any advantages of getting a pricey pot ?

Thanks a lot !

Clément.

The treble issue is in the HD800 itself, so modifying the HD800 is the best approach to fixing it. Try the Anax mod.

A hot treble is the typical knock on the HD800's. The HD800's are a potential giant killer let down by a resonant earpiece. Hence the popular Anax mod.

The Winding River Row (Cara Dillon) has become my go to track for evaluating the sibilance of headphones in my own system.  With a stock Crack and my Beyerdynamic T1 I was experiencing unpleasant sibilants which distracted from the song. This completely changed after adding some Russian Teflon K72P6 .056uF 500V as bypass caps. The top end became noticeably more refined sibilance is no longer issue at all!

There are a few Crack users on Headfi with HD800 and T1 who also have fitted them and have liked the results.

They only cost a dollar or two each off of ebay so its an inexpensive thing to try.

Jamie,

Great Celtic female voice there.  I'll have to look her up.

Hi Grainger, luckily for me the band plays locally to me once or twice a year and makes for a superb evening out.

The set always ends with a song called "The Parting Glass" which you will know.

Yes, Parting Glass is the last song on 40 Days by the Wailin' Jennys.

You are very lucky to have an active music scene.

Thanks for your reply !

How exactly do you solder those teflon capacitors ?
And still does changing the pot actually change sound ?

Thanks.
