I have been trying to do some AB testing between sources using the Mainlines input selector and while one channel switches over reasonably ok the other channel makes a annoying pop during the switch. So firstly should it be ok to switch between sources with the selector like this and secondly is there some kind of modification or different switch perhaps that would allow for a smother transition whilst switching from one live input to another on the fly so to speak?

Thanks

This switch shouldn't exhibit any significant noise.  Did it melt at all when you soldered to it?  Do both your sources have 3 wire power cords?

On the Mainline I have next to me, there's just a slight sizzle when I switch inputs.

Hi Paul ok one source only has a two wire power chord.

You could try grounding the chassis of that component to earth or to the plate of the Mainline (or converting to 2-wire cord to a 3-wire cord).

I can report the same as Jamie here, rather loud pop on the left channel when flipping from input 2 to input 1, not so much the other way around.
The chassis of the switch seems to me to grounded to the plate already when it is screwed tight.

I just noticed something else.
With input channel 1 selected, though nothing connected, I can, very quietly, hear the source playing on input channel 2.

Actually that's not cross talk. Cross talk is left bleeding into right and vice versa. This is simply one source selection coming thru the ground to another source selection. It's very simple to fix. Turn off the source you are not listening to.

Thanks Doc.
I was thinking to try some shielded twisted pairs.
Your solution is a bit easier and lot less costly:)

Of course, You're right, a shielded Cat 5 with twisted pairs..
I was thinking of one shield per pair, but am happy I don't have to now:)
