Just finished my Crack. Decided to try some big Russian military paper caps and lighting film caps in place of the stock electrolytics. Used small bypass caps where the electrolytics would mount to negate the influence of the leads to the big caps.

PSU has 2x100uF 1000V MBGT in place of first electrolytic, same again in place of second electrolytic then 4x50uF 450V polypropylene after the second series R. Coupling caps are each replaced with 2x50uF 450uF polyprop.

If I'd been sensible I'd have installed the standard caps first, then swapped them out one at a time to hear the impact of each change. Curiosity and excitement got the better of me.

Sound is superb through my sennheisers. Smooth but detailed, textured but delicate. A huge improvement over the modded tianyun zero dac/amp used previously. Particulary like the effortless scale and ambience - makes my old solid state amp sound forced and hard in comparison.

Tried supplied caps for about 5 minutes then swapped in a Siemens Halske silver plate 12AU7 (balanced) and a 1970 Svetlana 6H13S black plate. Think amp was still warming up when stock valves were in, so no idea if the change made much difference.

Cool Base!  I had to Google it to find out it is wine.  For all I know it could have been cigars.

Post more pictures of the big caps!  But you might put them in the Gallery.

That's gotta be the heavyweight champion so far!
I've got some of those 1000V MBGT and K75 monsters. Mine are 50uF but I've never seen any 100uF.
Would you mind revealing your source for the 100uF?

It is usually nice wine too - spends a long time in oak. I have always loved the label of the Gran Reservas, most years of which are VERY nice wines (try the 78, or the 89 especially - especially with grilled meat (but not overcooked - this wine makes a slow roast show its best). Gotta watch to make sure they've been stored right (i.e. the cork did not leaking or the wine is not off the shoulder in the bottle) but if they are in good shape the older ones are a real treat.

I like slowly roasted meat.  Here if it isn't red it is overcooked.  After the 70, when I made lots of wine, I haven't been much of a wine drinker.  But I appreciate the recommendation.
