I have a Seduction sitting on my shelf and access to about 15 Technics Reel-to-Reels.  What do I need to do to convert my Seduction to be used for this purpose?  I want to do some listening on a budget before investing in Reel equipment fully.  My seduction has had the CS4 upgrades.

It can be modified but the gain will be lacking. We posted an article about modding one about 10 years ago on the Tape Project site. You might be able to find that article with the wayback machine. I  recommend the Eros tape head preamp for serious listening.

Here is the project page.

Also worth mentioning that you will have to physically alter your deck to make it work. Since you said you "have access" to tape decks, it sounds like they might not really be yours.  The easiest way to determine if you are interested in R2R would be to listen to your deck with the built in electronics.

Also a Seduction setup for phono will have higher resale value than one setup for tape, so selling it to fund a preamp with adequate gain is probably a better move than reconfiguring.

Thanks for the reply.  I am selling about 15 Teac decks for a friend.  I have a great DAC and a nice phono set up.  I have wondered how much better a source can get without breaking the bank.  Is it worth jumping in to another source?

if I had all of those decks, I might just plug one in and see for myself 8)
