So I pulled the trigger on the new Oppo UDP, and made a couple Hi-Res DVDs (Thriller and Gaucho) and WOW! My Speedball+big cap Crack really woke up, even through my budget cans (CrackHeadphones and DT 770 pro 250).
I have never really listened to anything but my Reduction through the Stereomour II. (Set-up CD for channel and phasing and Rega phono stage for SN comparison being the exceptions)
I couldn't resist and strung a 3 meter cable with m to m adapters across the to the 1 meter set plugged into the Oppo. (not optimal)
WOW x10!
Fed the bigger signal, the Stereomour really came to life. Huge dynamic swings, better resolution and detail. All of it.
So...
How much of this would be realized analog by going to the Eros and its +10dB of gain?

Karl,

I have the Stereomour II and built an old Seduction I had sitting around.  It didn't have enough gain for me even with a 6.5mV cartridge, although it sounded great.  Upgraded to the Eros and it does everything better plus the needed gain.  You'll love it.  I just bit the bullet and ordered a NOS Telefunken E88CC/6922, which is in the mail.  I planned on a budget of $200 to $250 for a 7308 and 2 EF86's.  Blew that on the Telefunken.  Let's hope it's worth it, since I'll be eating beans on toast for the next couple of weeks....  :o

With moderately efficient speakers, the need for a little more gain can become apparent when comparing a source with 3-5V of output and the output of even a C4S'd Seduction/Reduction.  The Eros will certainly help in bringing up the analog signal level, and you get a better performing circuit all around as a bonus.

On the other side of things, pairing some 96+dB sensitive speakers with a Stereomour/Reduction tends to alleviate the need for a lot more gain.  (The difference in gain between a 3.5mV cartridge and a 6mV cartridge by comparison is about 4.5dB)
