I think I screwed-up, but not too bad (need advice)...

I may have made a mistake. I soldered a MJE5731A transistor in the wrong way. I saw it and kicked myself. Then I tried to de-solder it, and eventually got it out and turned around. Now I'm worried about how much heat I had to apply to get it out. Because it has three non-flexible posts, I had to heat all three at the same time for a long time to melt all the solder (even after using a solder sucker and a solder wick).

So, my question concerns the heat these transistors can take. I realize you can't tell too much from picture (see below), but ug. I had to heat this thing to like 600 degrees to get all three posts out at the same time.

Should I just cut my losses, clip the leads, de-solder, and install a new one? Or will it be OK? Looks like Mouser has them for $1.07 (+$5 shipping).

I wouldn't remove it.  It takes both heat and time to kill these transistors, and if the PC board isn't burned, the transistor is almost certainly OK.
