I just bought a Alps Blue Velvet 100K audio taper pot for $14 and got the 99 cent pc board online and it took three weeks to get it.
It arrived toay and took me an hour to uninstall the original and install the new one.
The pc board is a bit wide and you have to notch out the wooden case on the pot side...wood chisel!! Took a few minutes to enlarge this area.
The pc board makes life here easier than if you try to solder stuff to the tiny tabs...
I have the attenuation resistors and the 33K's across the pots to help get the volume control out of the low end of physical range.
My orginal setup with 300 ohm cans the volume control could not be turned up past 10 - 11 oclock wthout being very loud IMO.
The FAQ covers this and the solution works well for me..
The volume is now listenable from 10 am to 12 oclock....great!
The reason I changed out the stock 100 ohm was the low end tracking has always bee off abit...so when I saw these pots for
$14.....it was a no-brainer...
The low end tracking with a test tone is really spot on!! Yeah!
Now I am an objective guy but I swear that the crack sounds better than ever with HD 600's!! Uncanny good.
The new pot had to have its shaft shortened and it turns pretty stiff as compared to the original.
If you do this get the pc board !!
