Hi Doc, I met you a few years ago at a Record Meet in Port Townsend where I fell in love with a Tode amp you had (not for sale) on your table. I have been looking for one to buy ever since with so far NO luck (is bad luck really better than no luck at all?). In any case how about considering a classifieds section in the forum for those of us looking for such items - and even those selling them? I need a Tode before I die and I'm 76 so things are getting more urgent! Or better yet, how about producing some more Tode kits?

We are looking into a somewhat revised guitar amp kit, and I will suggest that you hang in there a bit longer. Tode is a cool little amp and I feel like I learned a lot from making it, that could lead to something even better.

Regarding classifieds, unfortunately we have to separate ourselves a bit from the used market. The nature of kits is such that some substantial fraction of the ones for sale are modified or poorly built. I know because they come to us for repair service a lot after they have been sold. People tend to keep well built, well functioning kits forever. Thus our philosophy is to encourage people to get a new kit and build it themselves. It may seem like a bargain to buy a used kit, particularly if one wants to avoid building. But fixing up someone else's mistakes can add a layer of frustration to what should be an enjoyable, educational experience. In the end it can cost more effort and money to fix a built kit with issues than to start from a fresh kit of parts.

I do understand that you are looking for something we no longer make and obviously some of what I said above does not all apply if we don't make the kit anymore. But the Tode and other legacy kits are, unfortunately, prone to this issue as well as current production kits. So we have decided to maintain the same policy.

I'll be putting up a poll pretty soon to see what kind of features and improvements people might like to see in a next generation Tode-style amp. I do want to keep it in a smaller form factor, but I would like to add an effects loop and maybe a bit bigger speaker.

Thanks for the reply Doc. I understand about the classifieds policy, makes perfect sense to me, it will never be mentioned again. In the meantime this is heartening news about the possibility of a new and improved Tode (or whatever it would be called). Anything would be appreciated that you came up with but my preference would be in general along the lines of a tweed Champ with a broader audio palate and a reverb and tremelo circuit. But I would look forward to anything you came up with!

I found someone on Instagram who’s selling one, but they don’t appear to be in the US. Might be worth reaching out though. Here’s the post. https://www.instagram.com/p/BxRek_5FEBu/?igshid=4dknbnoy524g
