Haha, yea probably true. Truth be told I actually don't know how to solder, and the individual that assembled my crack has since moved away. Hence my hesitation to attempt to reflow the joints 

If the replacement 12AU7 doesn't do the trick, seems like I'll have to start looking for someone to reflow for me.

So you need to spend $11 and watch a 20 minute video.  For our kits, an adjustable iron needs to always be turned all the way up.
