Hi All,
I recently purchased a Reduction phono pre from an estate.  The kit was completed (minus the base), but the owner passed away leaving no documentation as to the build.  Is it possible to get a copy of the Reduction assembly manual?  It appears from a quick browse here that the owner had marked all of the test points on the bottom of the unit.   I took a chance and fired it up on arrival, and the gain stage is working fine with no noise and appropriate output.  The RIAA portion is skewed somehow, and the test/checkout procedures should provide some help with getting it dialed in.   I have attached some photos, so any input the group would care to pass along would be great.  As for me, I'm not new to tube gear, I've built tube-based kits before, and am familiar with safety protocols for working on high voltage tube equipment.  I have a few good multimeters, and a scope that I'm trying to get set up (no signal generator yet). I consider myself to be a novice hobbyist with a reasonable level of experience (kit builds, recaps, etc).  Thanks all!

Jaybird.

That's actually an original Seduction, complete with the C4S upgrade - nice find!

The Reduction uses basically the same circuit, with some changes to the layout and power supply, and a larger (8" by 10") chassis plate.

Paul,
thank you very much for the information.   I found an email address in an old thread for obtaining the assembly manual, but the email bounced.  How is the best way for me to procure the assembly manual?  Thanks!!!  --Jay

There was never a PDF manual for those older kits, so purchasing a replacement manual may be a bit more involved than it otherwise would be for the newer stuff.  You can e-mail replacementparts(at)bottlehead(dot)com to ask about this.  Be sure to ask for a Seduction and Seduction C4S manual.

What DC voltages do you get on the metal tabs of the rectangular MJE350 transistors on the C4S boards?

What leads you to believe there's an issue with the RIAA EQ?

We have the Seduction manuals. We're out of the office for the holiday, but you can shoot us an email tomorrow.

Perhaps Doc can find you a wooden base too?
