Hey everyone.

Just managed to buy a prebuilt with several upgrades but the person I bought it from does not know what the mods are. It seems like some connections may have been damaged in shipping or something and I was hoping I could get some advice on how to repair them. I have zero experience. What I'm experiencing is a severe, loud buzz when connecting headphones.

The first broken part I noticed was a solder joint on one of the capacitors. That seems straightforward, I will solder it again.

The second possibly broken part I noticed is this read capacitor WIMA MKS 4. I don't know how it is supposed to be connected here, so if anyone could advise I would greatly appreciate it. Is that last little hole on the metal bar attached to the brown bar the place for me to connect this cable of that capacitor?

The third thing is that there seems to be this piece of sticky dough/paste that is tucked underneath one of the bigger Jantzen capacitors. No clue what that might be for.

Apologies for the complete lack of knowledge here. I hope to learn in the process.

Attached are images.

Found a little multimeter I could probably use. No clue how to use it here, I don't know which terminals need to be checked and such. I suppose I need to order a manual?

Attached are some images of the LED's and the multimeter.

EDIT: Sorry, doubled the attachments accidentally.

I’d ask the seller for the manual. Otherwise you’ll need to purchase one from Bottlehead to know what your voltages and and resistances are in a working amp.

The red wima caps are not part of the stock build, so you'd have to talk to the seller.  The putty was likely to hold the big caps against the chassis plate.

Update.

Completely fixed. I did now what I should have done before posting which is actually inspect every joint more closely and read through the forum. I just have never soldered or really worked so closely with electronics before, so, sorry for the spam. 4 capacitor joints were off and, as suggested in the posts here, one of the connectors on the alps pot was off as well.

Thanks everyone. Going to buy a baseball cap and badge ;D
