How to attenuate output

I am a little confused about this. I generally don’t listen at loud volumes, so I’d like to lower the output a bit to avoid channel imbalance from the pot. I see a solution presented in the faq and another one here

Which of these would work better? The second one seems quite a bit simpler

Pot rotation is about 300 degrees. The series 100K resistor attenuates 6dB, which is about 45 degrees rotation; the series 75K with parallel 33K gives 12dB (90 degrees) change.

All right, thanks. I think I’d be better off trying the simpler 6db one, then.
