I am making good progress on the S.E.X amp kit. Just completed the tube test and success! I am feeling good.

I am reading ahead a few steps and do not understand the directions on page 40 (of the 3.0 kit directions) that say:
"Wrap the banded lead of a UF4007 ultrafast rectifier diode around the unbanded lead of another
UF4007 as shown. This is NOT the same as twisting."

I did a quick search to see if I am misunderstanding something about wrapped versus twisted. But I didn't come up with a good explanation.

The image in the manual makes it look like it's just a tightly wound lead. But the instructions say 'this is NOT the same as twisting.' And that sentence is what's confusing me.

For clarification: Does 'wrap' mean that I am just wrapping the lead really closely and tightly? (And I understand that the the banded end needs to wrap around the unbanded end).

Can anyone lead me to a good video on youtube of how to wrap a lead correctly? It seems like the lead might snap if I do it wrong.

Or, is it really a pretty easy task? I just can't tell.

Thanks for answering my noob questions.

Hopefully this helps. What this means is the unbanded lead is straight, and banded lead wraps around it several times - without bending the unbanded lead. So when you are done the unbanded lead is still straight but now has the banded lead wrapped around it. Attached is a kind of crappy picture of how I did it, it's soldered so it's harder to tell how one lead is wrapped about 3-4 times around the other lead, which remains kind of straight still.

Good description. A couple of turns around the straight lead is fine too. Don't tell anyone but I usually do just a single turn.

Thank you for the advice/clarification.

It helped!

And, banding the leads wasn't a big deal at all.

I am hoping to complete the kit in the next few days. Fingers crossed.

Again, many thanks!
