Hello folks,
I would like to know if the Crack headphone could be modified a bit to support my beloved AKG-K271 mark II headphones at the impedance of only 55 ohms without a significant loss of audio quality. I do know that the Crack amplifier is designed for the higher impedance cans, but I beg you pardon my scepticism towards the S.E.X. amp - I don't like compromises. I have read about the upcoming Smack amplifier, but again, I would rather order a Crack kit because of its age and popularity - I know that if I'll have a problem, someone will help me to sort it out, and in case I want to modify it, again help is easily found, whereas the Smack will be hot and new but less tested and experimented on by the wide community.
I hope nobody gets me wrong, I definitely do not want to question the quality of Bottlehead products, I just want the best of the best
So, is it possible to modify the Crack amp to not only play sound on my AKG's but to get close to the quality of the higher impedance setup?
Another question is related to the other mods, particularly the capacitors. From what I've read from the forums, I might want to add some capacitors to improve the sound quality - but I have no idea where to connect them and what kind of capacitors to buy. Of course, I don't have the amp yet, but then again, it would be nice to be able to order stuff asap to be able to build them in right away with the kit. The speedball upgrade seems very tempting too - I would appreciate some comments on its effect on the sound.
Phew, quite a long post for the first post. Small disclaimer in the end - you might have already noticed that I'm not a native English speaker. I hope my English is good enough for you to understand my points though.
And hey, many thanks in advance for the great, helpful replies!
