Early last month I ordered a Crack with speedball so I would have a project to work on with my 17 year old son during his Christmas break from school. He had expressed an interest in building a headphone amp but was surprised when the Crack kit arrived and it had tubes! We wanted to customize the kit a bit so he took the the base plate and transformer bell cap to school and powder coated it. Looks pretty cool. It was fun to see the big smile on his face the first time we hooked his headphones up to it and it worked. Yesterday I picked up the new Beyerdynamics DT990 Pro 250 Ohm headphones I had ordered and we finally had a chance to hear what the crack is really capable of. I have to say I had forgotten what music should really sound like until I heard the sound coming out of that headset last night. Large sound stage, pin-point placement of the instruments, it was all clear and crisp, and that is using the tubes that come with the kit. I haven't had good audio equipment for quite a few years so this was a real treat for me and my son. We had no issues building this kit, the instructions are simple and clear, and the pictures illustrate exactly what to do. I just had to remind myself to take it slow and have both of us check each step as we proceeded.

Eileen was wonderful to make sure I received the kit before the Christmas break started, and when I found one piece of the wood base was too short I called and Dan answered the phone. I told him what had happened and within 2 hours I had an email from UPS saying a package had been picked up from bottlehead. This was on a Friday and on Monday afternoon the proper length piece had been delivered.
I have read a lot of what has been written on the bottlehead forums and I am impressed with the knowledge that is shared and the courtesy and patience that is shown to everyone.
Thank you to everyone at Bottlehead and on this forum. My next kit will be a Bottlehead kit, I'm already trying to figure out how to get a Stereomour into the house because I'm sure that when my son moves out he's going to want to take the Crack with him.

First of all, welcome. Second, that

Thanks for the kind words. That short base piece is a rarity. We certainly have odd goofs show up now and then, but I don't think we've seen that particular issue before. Hang on to it, maybe it will become a collector's item  ;)
