Ok, here's what you do.

Power down your amp, flip over the faceplate, do the voltage checks and all that yadda yadda.  but here's the fun part.

While you're holding both probes from your meter in your hands, touching a couple of connections, roll your chair leg over some shipping bubble wrap that just happens to be laying on the floor!   Whoo howdy.  If that doesn't get your heart racing you're already dead.  jee  suz.  snap, crackle pop.

That sounds like something that would happen to me.  If it hasn't happened, something just like has.

That happened the last time I was doing voltage checks... except it was my back making those popping sounds.  :o

I laughed for a full 10 seconds on this one-- I can totally see myself doing that!
Cheers,

The best part is that as I pushed myself back from the counter, I rolled over more "bubbles" and my anxiety doubled because the popping increased.  It didn't take me long to laugh at myself but it was only after my heart started again.   ;D

Mega volt static discharge is a way of life for us in the desert. Its not uncommon for my power amp to shut down when I touch it without grounding myself first.

Same for those of us in the upper midwest, where it gets very cold and super dry in the winter. When static discharges actually hurt and cause an ozone smell, you know your house is a bit too dry....
