Same thing, SSD is a solid state "hard drive".  Really just a huge memory chip.  Eliminating the electro-mechanical disc reader is the key, not the data storage device.

I believe this is designed by NwAvGuy, I find it curious, when he was all over the net trashing a number of manufacturers products he swore he had no commercial interests. He is also of the opinion that lovers of the SET sound are delusional.

Yeah, I have read over this guy's design philosphy, and there is almost no overlap with what we are up to at Bottlehead.

The driving principle behind these designs is that making a design change that results in less distortion always results in better sound.  One example of this is the O2 headphone amplifier, where two opamps are used per channel with gobs of feedback to push the THD way, way down.  This is not an invalid approach to audio design, it's just one that we don't really agree with.  We could add feedback to nearly all of our products for very little cost (just a few resistors in most cases) and reduce the total harmonic distortion, but the sonic consequences of doing so are significant.

Good enough is incredibly subjective, and I don't think anybody on this forum can claim to dictate what that is.

Oh, yeah, rewired with OCCC wire, hand doped cones, film and foil coupling caps, and a removed dust caps and added wood phase plugs.

Built the stock Crack some days back, and I'm loving it fed by my Xonar sound card. I'm using the HD650s. I heard a lot of good things about the ODAC..I'm in for an affordable DAC to use with my laptop. Undecided whether to get the ODAC or HRT M Streamer II...Anyone had a listen to these DACs?

I have the ODAC.

In short: Lots of hifi for your buck. It extracts every little detail from your file and actually presents it in a fairly good soundstage.
In absolute terms it does not float my boat as Americans say.

But it might just be your cup of tea. Not a DAC that will be used in my main system. But absolutely able enough as DAC in my hobby room computer system.

For $100 you can't go wrong with the Modi by Schiit. USB only with no external power and it comes in a slick little steel chassis.
