Voltage checks and question regarding Selector - Quickie 1.1

Hello everyone and Happy Easter!

My Easter present to myself was to complete my Quickie.

I am anxious to listen to it.

My resistance checks were all fine.

I had some off voltage readings but am wondering if I am within limits to try it.

My voltages are:

Terminal       Voltage      My Voltage
1, 6                 29V           29.6 V, 32.9 V
2, 7                 38V           38.1 V,  38.1 V
4, 9                 2-3V          2.1 V, 1.3 V
5, 10                0V               0 V, 0 V
Rotary D           ~4V            3.7 V
Rotary C           ~4V            2.8 V


Specifically, the ones that I am wondering are:

6, 9, and Rotary C.

Also,  do the tubes emit a glow or does it take awhile.   With my Crack I see more of a glow.

Lastly, The Selector Rotary switch.  Do you just turn one click to the right?  Obviously this turns on the Quickie but do both Input RCAs become active or is there a switch to say which on the Quickie uses?

Hello Dave,

Your voltages look relatively close, I'd go ahead and give it a listen (you could probably make the off voltages switch sides if you swapped the tubes).

On the selector switch, all the way counterclockwise is off, the next position is on and input one, the next position is on and input two.

I did swap the tubes around and you are absolutely correct that the voltages followed the tube.

I next swapped the stock tubes with Valvo tubes and the voltages are now perfect.

As per the rotary switch, I don't know if mine is possibly messed up but I can only make mine go one click!  I have taken off the black switch (like the top of the volume switch) but even gently with plyers I can't make it more than 1 click.  Do you think it is broken?

Also, a neophyte question for preamps.  As this preamp has a volume switch, when would you never have it at 100% and let your main amp handle the amplification to the speakers/headphones.  I currently have my sources hooked to the Quickie to my Crack.

If the switch only goes one click, the washer that sets the stop is one position off.  You can pull the volume knob off, then remove the nut and washer on the rotary switch.  With it loose, you can push it down a little bit, then pop up the little metal ring on the top side of the switch that is held in place by the chassis plate.  With a little experimentation, you can put it back where it should be.

Worked like a charm.  I now have the selector switch working.   

...however,

when I was fixing the selector switch I noticed that the B side closest to the back RCA wire came loose.  I guess my solder wasn't a good one.  I resoldered it and now I am not getting any sound from either input.   

I retook the voltages.  I took both input values - Selector switch 1 and 2 clicks:

Terminal    Selector 1 click                 Selector 2 clicks
1, 6             37.5 V , 37.5 V              29.0 V, 29.0 V
2, 7             37.7 V, 37.7 V               37.5 V, 37.5 V
4, 9               0 V, 0 V                         2.1 V, 2.1 V
5, 10             0 V, 0 V                            0 V, 0 V
Rotary D       1.5 V                                 3.7 V
Rotary C       1.5 V                                 3.7 V


I am sorry to bother you again.  I thought that for sure after I got the Selector switch to work I would be good!

1 Click looks "off", 2 clicks and everything looks good, what do no clicks look like in terms of voltages?

Terminal

Rotary C       3.7 V                 

After some fooling around it seems:

1 Click is off
2 Clicks works for the inputs closest to the tubes
3 Clicks works for the inputs furthest from the tubes.         

weird.  Any ideas.  Either I just keep it like this and take it as there is a -1 click from off or try to figure out why it is 1 off.

Would this affect the upgrade to the PJCCS?  I don't think it would.
