I was using Cardas solder.  Anyway I re soldered the area and did connect the terminals to ground and now all is good,  thanks for all of the help. 
It must have been excess flux not allowing a good connection and producing a short?  Good eyes by the way diagnosing the problem with the photo
Now on to add the Speedball!

Cardas is what I use.  I'm surprised at the obvious flux seen in the pictures.
