Problems with cutting a thread with the self tapping screw
on:

Hi. First post here.
I feel a little idiotic having a problem without even having started to solder.
On page 14 in the Crack Manuel regarding the Power Transformer it says:
First grasp the mounting tabs of each 6 lug terminal strip
firmly in some pliers and slowly thread the #8 - 32 x 1/2" self
tapping screw into each mounting tab to cut a thread. Remove
the screw and set the terminal strip aside.
Is it just me or is this supposed to be difficult? I'm only able to screw a few cycles. After that it becomes really stiff and I'm afraid I'll bend or break the terminal strip if I try any harder.
Anyone else had this problem or knows what I'm talking about?
Cheers,
Orri

The trick when threading a hole is to twist maybe half a turn, back off a quarter turn, twist a half, back off a quarter, etc. That way you cut the thread deeper in a gradual way that keeps from binding.

Thanks for the tip and the quick reply.
I realised that I just needed better tools (I was using the needlenose plier). It went quite smoothly after I found a better screwdriver and pliers with "streaks".

It helps to use very, very large pliers to hold the terminal strip.
