Hi everyone,

I have a Quickie, and it is hooked up to a large solid state amp (Inter-m R500).  It's 175W X 2, so it gets pretty loud.  The amp is turned all the way up, so in order to listen at a volume that's not too loud, the Quickie volume is very low.  For best sound quality, is it better to turn the amp down and crank the Quickie up, or turn the amp up and only turn the Quickie up a little?  Thanks,

Dave

I would start with the amp all the way down.  Set the Quickie's volume to around 50-60%.  Bring up the amp gain while playing the loudest music you have until you feel you've hit maximum enjoyable volume and of course without clipping the amp.  Then just use the quickie for master volume.

Another option would be to add resistors to the Quickie volume pot to reduce the source signal.

I've done it two ways with 2 different set up.  My quickie connected to my S.E.X. I keep the sex at about 80% and use the quickie and mostly around the 2 to 6 o'clock position.

My quickie in my main system that has large solid state amp, I'd set the quickie at a set spot around  8 o'clock and then adjust my preamp with remote volume.  I thought it sounded best this way.  not exactly the same as your situation but i wanted to share my experience.

So do you think I'll hear a difference?

Wow.. no question that helped.  It brought out more detail and air in the sound.. Amazing what little adjustments can do!   8)  Thanks!
