I've been using a 1.6 D for my Crack and cable work. I find it a bit too big for some things. I'm about to start the Speedball and was thinking of going to a 1.2 D. Any advice??

Tips are cheap, by an assortment. Get a smaller chisel, a wider chisel and a pencil tip.
