This old fellow needs assistance. I just received a brand new 369AX transformer from Mouser. I'm trying to hook it up to a small project of mine, but I am confused with the wiring. If someone could be kind enough to let me know if I could send them a personal message with the 369AX wiring details, could they assist me. I would tell him/her what voltages I need to get from the transformer.

If you are confused, then probably other people are confused as well. Let's make it a learning experience for all of us. Perhaps you could post what your problem is, the desired voltage and the high voltage current required for each channel.

I see the transformer schematic at
http://www.mouser.com/ds/2/177/5c0028-41664.pdf

shows 40 va, 250 vct with a 50 volt bias winding and a 2 amp 6.3v filament winding.

That's a generic schematic for their 300 series, all of which have "universal" primaries, which is what the OP is having trouble with, unless I am completely mistaken. There are 2 primary windings with taps. They can either be connected in series for 220 or 240 AC volts, or in parallel for 100 V or 120v(North America). I am assuming that Guy lives in North America, therefor connect the two 0 volt leads together and the black and blue leads are tied together for 120 volt operation. You must use both primary windings ;D

Guy,

Is this your situation, North America and two primary windings?

Yes, I am in North America,   Canada.

Ok....Thank you all....I feel somewhat silly because I ordered something on EBay which I thought I could put together....but I came to the conclusion that this pie is too big for my limited knowledge. Its a couple of boards to make a phono pre-amp.  I built a Crack, a Stereomour, Paramounts and Bee-Pre.....but I followed the well explained manuals and all went well. This is too much for me. If someone can sort out the connections , I would be very appreciative. The files are all attached hereto.  The transformer details are also enclosed [Hammong 369AX]

Have you contacted Mr. Stapleton? I know that I would be a little discouraged if someone contacted one of our competitors for tech support for one of our kits, since we go to so much effort to support our own product. I also imagine that he would have some experience to share that we don't have regarding the implementation of the power transformer. From a quick scan of the documentation he seems to specify a different part.

Your probably right Dan. I should not have posted on this forum.

However, just to set the record straight,  I wish to underline that the little pre-amp that I was asking help about was not in competition with your products.

If you check your records, you will see that I ordered [and paid for] an Eros phono pre-amp from you over a month ago. It has not shipped yet.

In any event, the little phono pre-amp that I was asking help about is not for me, but for a friend.

I also purchased from you: Crack, Strereomour, Paramounts and Bee-Pre.

Guy,

We are just recommending that you first seek technical support from the vendor of the kit you purchased.  They likely will give you the best advice and the most efficient means of properly constructing your preamp.  We would say the exact same thing to somebody who hadn't bought any kits from us before, your purchase history is irrelevant in this situation.

We have been very clear that our lead time is 3-6 weeks for our kits.  Eileen stayed late at the office last night to get your Eros packaged and ready for shipment, and she is working today (Saturday) to take your kit to the Post Office to be shipped.

Short note - it appears that the transformer you purchased does not have a suitable low-voltage (8-12v) winding; there is only the one 6.3v winding. There is a note in the literature you posted about getting excess hum if you use that winding - the manufacturer should be able to advise you on that risk and ways to reduce it (which would affect how the transformer is connected).

Goodness, I had not intended to have this evolve into a major issue.  Paul [Caucasian Blackplate], I simply wish to point out that I was not seeking technical support from anyone at Bottlehead Inc. concerning a third party kit.

And, I understand fully, that it would not be appropriate to do so.

This morning, I got up before sunrise and had nothing to do except to stare at the little pre-amp kit. The kit vendor was certainly not out of bed at my Atlantic Daily Time. So, naively of me perhaps, I put out a request for assistance on the Bottlehead Forum concerning the issue of  hooking up the transformer. In my first message, I asked for anyone to send me a personal  message and I would have exchanged correspondence with that good Samaritan;  then, someone posted a message and suggested that I put the question to the Forum....which is what I did. And, what has evolved after is history now.,

In retrospect, I deeply regret having asked for assistance.

Well, this went all to hell in a hand basket...
I don't think any offence was meant by either the OP or by any of the commentators, hope none was taken by all involved.

Guy, you have my apologies that this turned into a bit of a pig-pile. My intention was merely to help get the most pertinent info, which I felt would be from the kit manufacturer. Since we don't have any experience with the kit our suggestions simply might not be as useful as his.
