Hi,

Is there an audio player for apple that automatically locks on to the proper bit rate and sample rate when you play a song?  I'm using Itunes right now with Mac OSX 10.6.8, and have to manually adjust the sample rate for my dac to start playing music sometimes.  Anyone else having a similar issue?  Thanks,

Dave

The Bottlehead DAC reads the sample rate of the stream and adjusts accordingly. That Swenson guy knows his s**t.

Its the media player he is asking about.  Sorry Im not familiar with apple compatible software. I have been toying with Media Monkey, and it does seem to play the native bitrate. Try googleing that and see if there is a mac version. (the free version is fine for my uses). And Doc, get that kickstarter going for the DAC!!!!

Bitperfect playback is what you want, on a Windows machine you download a plugin for your media player, and having done a quick google it seems the same is true is iTunes on a mac.

This is one of the issues with stock iTunes (aside from poor playback quality) -- if you change to a file that has a different sample and resolution than what is set in audiomidi settings, you have to go into those settings and redo them manually.

There is a low cost (around $10) app called play.app that fixes this problem, but has very few other features. You're probably better off with one of the better media players such as audirvana and Pure Music. Audirvana has a free version that is quite good. Pure Music just came out with version 2.0 but I've not taken it sor a spin yet.

At this point i'm considering the itunes add-in..  I would like to transfer the music wirelessly from my mac to the dac (hey that rhymes! lol sorry i'm kinda punchy) using an apple tv eventually, so any software that plays music would need to support that capability.  There is probably a better option than itunes, but it would be nice if I could do this for maybe under $100..  It seems like there is an overwhelming amount of options out there as well.

I'm sure you'll find a way to move your music to the DAC wirelessly, but it's going to be your best sounding option.

Thanks for the link Dan.  I've heard of discounts at shows but was wondering  if there were any other places to get discounts on it?

Is there an equivalent quality player for windows?

Foobar with the wasapi plugin in great, and free.   It does take a while to customize all the views to your liking so don't let the out of box appearance put you off.

I have used several players including Foobar but I like J River better for windows. I believe they have a Mac version now.
