Hi,

I have been with my Steremour for about a year now, can't see enough good things about it!

I am adding a pre-amp into my system, and wondering if I can turn Stereomour into a power amp? I have the input selector bypassed when I built it,  and used an Alps blue for volume pot, can I just bypass the Alps Blue? or do I have to replace the pot with a resistor?

Thanks for your help!

Jerry,

I think this qualifies as a FAQ.  Yes, you can replace the volume pot with a pair of 100k Ohm resistors, or just run the volume pot wide open.  Either way you need a friendly load for your preamp.

(Grainger, that would be 100K ohms, not 100 ohms  :^)  <--typo

I suggest you leave the level control in until the system is in a stable configuration - it will be useful to trim the gain structure, depending on the actual sources and preamp in use. See my white paper on signals and noise, linked off the More/Community page.

Once stable and adjusted for best signal to noise, the control can be replaced with a pair of fixed L-pads.
