Building a Crack for a friend of mine.  Just got the kit today.  Started the customization.  No guts done yet. Will have some lettering or something on the other side and below Punchy.

What do you think, so far?

Looks great!  Nice job on the color match between the top plate and Punchy's shirt!

I hadn't seen or thought of Punchy in ages - another iconic ad mascot from the past.  I was just in the San Francisco airport and saw the small exhibit of ad mascots therein...brought back memories of old ad campaigns and taglines.  Definitely worth a few minutes' time if you're passing through the International terminal.

In any event, looks like a nice start.  Will you take the island theme any farther, say, with a Koa base?

I like it.  The color really pops.  Will there be a treatment for the volume knob?

Great idea and a cool project, I cant help but think Mr Punch needs to be hanging ten on a woody longboard! Looking forward to seeing more of the build as you progress.

Shoot for the moon if you miss you will still be amongst the stars!

Doesn't he need to have a glass of the punch in one hand to make the offer ambiguous?

Well now it has a name.  I need something tiny for the space on the left now.

I was thinking beer but it's not mine.  Trying to keep it clean across the board.

Had a couple short sessions with the Crack.  This is the third one I've built now and learning all the tricks by now.

Really love the Bottlehead kits. Really easy to build, and fun as well.

 ;D Aloha Fellow Bottleheads,

Regarding the Hawaiian Crack Punch, I asked John if he could build it for me as due to medical issues I just couldn't do the build.  John lives in Mainland Japan and I live down here in Okinawa.  He was in Okinawa this week and delivered the Crack amp and I've been listening to it everyday, John did a beautiful job and I just love the theme on the amp.  And yes, his building skills are very neat and clean.  I'm blaming him for my crazy obsession with the headphones, as it was John on one of his visits down to Okinawa that  said have I ever listened to a DAC/amp running through some headphones through my Macbook Pro.  Told him no, and he gave me a simple dad/amp and I listened through I Tunes and I was hooked.  Now I have gone way overboard and purchased way too much headphones, portable amps/dacs, media players and home amp/dac combos.  I tell the wife that I need my music as I'm a hemodialysis patient and the music is the only way I can escape been hooked up to a machine cleaning my blood.

I'm now listening to Nora Jones on the Hawaiian Crack Punch using a A&K 240 playing DSD through my Fostex TH900 and it's awesome, bass, midrange and treble spot on and the soundstage is wide, I've got Nora giving me a private concert in my head.  Mahalo John for all the help and for building me a great amp that I'm keeping forever.
Aloha,
Wendell  ;D

Thanks Wendell,

Hey you did me a favor.  That amp build kept me at home for a week and out of trouble with my gf!  I wasn't as successful last night :)

And while we're spreading blame for stuff.  I first moved to Japan in 1996 and shortly thereafter started getting involved in audio with a Fisher 500, LS3/5A's etc. Wendell is the one who first uttered the word "Bottlehead" to me and since then I've ordered 2 Foreplay 2's, 2 Foreplay 3's, a SEX amp, Paramours, 2 Cracks, built the SEXy speaker kit and correction baffle and eyeballing some gear now.

You buy another kit and I'm happy to build it for you.

He's not lying about going overboard with the headphones and DAC's.

Hmm, I guess we owe Wendell a thank you!

Really though, Wendell, you seriously lucked out!  There are plenty of folks floating around who will build Cracks for various forms of bribery, but none that I know of that come with such cool vinyl overlays.

(BTW John, where's that Crisco Crack you promised?)

Wendell gave me a set of Beyerdynamic Tesla T51p's as a reward.  Wendell is a hard core Hawaiian and one trip in his office or home is enough to verify that.   I knew going into the thing that I was going to do something Hawaiian to the amp.

Crisco Crack is doable.  Just send me a kit.  I'll do it for free.

Thinking about mounting another raspberry Pi inside CrackPipe and selling it.

Now using a Schiit Bifrost as my favorite DAC.  Maybe make a chassis design that says "Schiit in my Crack". :)
