So, I'm looking to go down the phono road soon.  Right now, I have a Crack and a SEX, and will likely be getting the Reduction phono preamp.  Will the Reduction drive the Crack and SEX sufficiently, or do I also need a regular preamp?

You will not need a line stage; this setup has enough gain and will work quite well.

You might want one for the fun of having another project, or to give a bit of drive to the music, or the convenience of multiple inputs or outputs, or other reasons.

Oh, don't get me wrong.  I fully intend on slowly expanding my Bottlehead collection to a preamp and power amp for a speaker setup.  These things are way too much fun.

"...or to give a bit of drive to the music ..."

I did not know what that meant until a few weeks ago when I plugged my headphones in my Paramounts (with the Extended Foreplay as preamp). It was a bit like music on steroids.

This shouldn't be a problem, just keep the cartridge output around 5mV for best performance.
