Noticed a periodic scrapping/rustling noise that came and went. Reviewed postings on the forum, thought about it and decided to first check all soldering joints. Indeed, there was one unsoldered connection hidden away. Success! Very meaningful because this was my first project and it leaves me enthusiastic about building more kits as money becomes available.
The Forum proved really useful.
