I installed a Goldpoint V24 Custom in the Crack and the first 12 steps of the left channel are dead. The right channel works fine. I've looked at all the soldering and there aren't any shorts that I can see. Any ideas on what's causing this?

Likely a faulty switch.  Use your DMM to measure resistance at each step and compare the first 12 steps left to right. Sounds like the first 12 steps on the left are shorting.
