Hi,

I am about to buy a Hifiman new flagship HE-1000. It is an inefficient headphone with 35ohm impedance and 90 dBSPL@1mW. The staff of Hifiman said amplifier with 600mW@35ohm might not be capable to drive its full potential due to additional headroom.

From the description of Mainline, its output power is about 600mW. Is it the maximum power or average power? What is its maximum power? I am considering to get a SEX to work with HE-1000 if Mainline falls short of power. Thanks.

Unfortunately HiFiMan was not interested in loaning me a pair of HE-1000s to test, so I can't give you a definitive answer about it's performance with Mainline. I do know that Mainline works well with more sensitive HiFiMans like the HE-400, but does not work as well with the power hungry HE-6. I am certain that both the S.E.X. amp and the Neothoriator will have more than enough power to run HE-1000s.

Thanks Doc.

I'd better give up HE-1000 or thinking of building a new S.E.X. amplifier.
