I've seen several comments regarding HLMP-6000 LEDs having an expiration date so to speak. Even the Bottlehead store says, "Store unused LEDs in a dry environment and install within one year of purchase." Do unused LEDs go bad after a certain amount of time?

They can absorb moisture over a very long period of time.  If they are stored in a dry place, it may take years for this to happen.  If they are stored in a damp environment, they need to be baked at a low temperature before they are soldered.
