Hello all and happy new year.  6 months on and still loving my Crack and now feeling brave enough to attempt a couple of small mods!

Quick question: I'm just fitting a TKD 2CP-2511 pot.  I had to widen the hole in the plate for the shaft very slightly with a reamer and now it goes through nicely.   I was also expecting to have to drill a new small hole for the retainer/indexing pin thing which prevents the pot from coming loose.

The pot comes with two nuts - presumably one for each side of the plate.  But when also using a nut on the inside of the plate, the indexing pin is now too far away from the plate for it to be used.

So... is it a case of using either the indexing pin or  dual nuts- whichever is most convenient? Or do they always come loose further down the line if you don't use the indexing pin?

Thanks - I fully realise 100% newb nature of this question :)

They both go on the top side.  Tighten the first one snugly, then tighten the second one on top of it (or throw the second one away)

With long threaded shafts I use one nut on each side of the plate to adjust the threads exposed on the plates top side.  This adjustment depends on the knob used, all knobs are not equal, but most of the time Paul's one or two nuts on the top is the usual installation.

Thanks Lee!

Yes the TKD threaded shaft is a bit long so just using the nuts as you described would certainly allow for a better fit and help me avoid having to cut down the spindle and/or try and drill out the new metal knob I bought.

Do you find that if you don't use the indexing pin and just use a nut either side that the pot will stay secure through general use?

James, there are a lot of pots and attenuators that do not have an indexing pin, use a lock washer or adequate of torque, the pot will not move.  Most attenuators do not have an indexing pin except Goldpoint (stub not pin) but one needs a slot like the one Bottlehead cuts in order for it to work.
