My crack + speedball has been going strong for a year or more (love it, listening to Charlie Haden play the bass right now).  I am interested in doing the volume attenuation mod to get more range out of the volume pot, I barely get a quarter turn out of it now before it's too loud.  So... I'm cheap and I have a bag of Radio Shack 1/4 watt resistors.  I don't want to order 4 resistors and pay $12 shipping.  And Radio Shack by me doesn't carry any actual discrete components anymore.  And the local electronics store closed when the owner retired.   :-\

I have the 33K ohm resistors, but I do not have any 75K ohm.  The pack does have both 68K and 82K.  Would either or both of these work?  They're 5% tolerance, I would be sure to pick a couple that are as close to each other as possible.  I assume the answer is "either" but I wasn't 100% sure how critical the resistance was.  I can follow directions and I can solder after a fashion, but I wasn't really paying attention in Electronics class.

Thanks,
Rich

Either will work fine, but you'll want to use a pair of 68K resistors or a pair of 82K resistors.

Oh yes, I got that part.  Wasn't sure how critical the 75K was.

Thanks, PB!  Starting my Stereomour II shortly, taking this opportunity to do a couple of small mods (volume attenuation on the Crack and rewiring the headphone jack in my SEX 2.0 to disconnect the speakers) to break in my new solder station first.  While I'm waiting for the paint on the top plate to dry.

That worked great!   ;D  Used the 68K resistors and now I can use over half the range, and the ramp up in volume is much more gradual.

As always thanks for all the great help at Bottlehead!
