The Birth of the BAC!

Today the plate for the BAC was cut.  You can see the first attempt - the cutout for the power connector didn't fall through and the head couldn't make the complete outline cut.

Not sure if all of that will go in.  I'd like to use the paper in glass caps in the power supply and mount them on top.  Speedball is here somewhere.

I had already started planning this before the Crackatwoa came out so I just continued it.  If I really want to blow the doors off my headphones I'll pick up a Mainline someday.

Looks interesting have you cannibalised a Crack kit for this? That cutter didn't take long to do the top plate it looks like a plasma cutter but is a lot faster and more precise than the one we had work which was much more agricultural.

Yes- I bought a full Crack/Speedball kit to do this with.

Laser baby!!!   

We have a few plasma burners also but to get this resolution we use the laser.  This burn failed as the power connector cutout didn't fall through and the head couldn't finish the pass.

That first delay and that box on the left opening is it picking the proper head out to burn that particular grade and thickness.

She was close....so close.  I reused the 100uf caps from Crack #1 but the leads had been flexed too many times and one broke off right at the cap.  No fixing that one.  Until then...Crack Porn.  I was about 4 solder points from starting to test it.  I've got the speedball but that will wait until I know all of this will work.

The black square stuff is just sound damping.  It takes some of the BOING out of tapping the chassis.  Especially around the volume knob it helps.

Nice colour choice on the top plate it looks neat some I like the caps poking through. It looks like you are close to wrapping it up apart from the speedball. Looking forward to seeing more.

In my angst and disappointment I forgot I have the original caps to test with.  So I removed the big blue boys and installed the baby blues.  Resistance checks all dead on.  Power up...very high voltages  ...strange....read directions...oh....  Put the tubes in the sockets and strangely enough all the voltages became normal!    Still have to add the big Clarity's when they get here and then the speedball but at the moment we be JAMMIN'!!!   

One mistake - when I changed the hole out from the 12AU7 to the 6SN7 I centered the new hole over the old...woops...  Now the standoffs are about 1/8" off - too close.  Should have used the top screw hole as the anchor point.  I'll get 'er to work.
