Hey, i'm having a problem with my built crack.
Sometimes there are noises like you get when recording outside with a microphone, on a windy day.
These noises are independent of volume control. Music sounds find otherwise.
At first i though it was a bad rca cable, but tried different cable and source now. At first it was gone, but it came back for a short while.
It's not consistent. It's not the phone, i tried putting that away and also putting it super close to see if it's coming from there, but it wasn't.
Kinda not sure how to test this now. Any help appreciated.

It sounds like it might be a microphonic tube. Sometimes that will cure itself after the tube plays for several hours. If not, let us know via replacementparts at bottlehead dot com and we can exchange the tube for you.

The sound came back, i tried a different power tube and it is still there.
It seems to come and go sporadically.
Sound is otherwise as described. Any other reason but the tube?

I had similar and it was the headphone output socket. Try jiggling the jack in the socket and see if that causes the noise to come and go. If so, reflow those solder points.

I think that might be it, i don't have my solder iron here with me atm. Will have to do it in a few days or so.
Maybe i will use the opportunity to switch out the headphone jack with a neutrik one?
Not sure if they fit without drilling, will have to check out the modding thread here.

You said you tried another power tube. How about the input tube?

Also tried a different input tube, forgot to mention.

Also sometimes have a slight buzz in right channel sometimes, which also goes away when i unplug the headphone and plug it back in. Wiggling does nothing it seems, though.
So it seems to be a problem with the headphone jack?


Everything independent of the volume.

Try reheating the solder joint where the black wires meet on the headphone jack.  This is a pretty common solder joint that doesn't always flow out well, and can cause a myriad of issues if it's not solid.

I resoldered that joint, and i still have the same issues.
I will try to swap out the cables completely around the headphone jack
