Wrong resistors in kit? [Resolved]

I'm on page 67 in the Eros manual and it's calling for 470k ohm resistors. I have two left but they don't appear to be 470 ohm. They are green-purple-black-orange-brown which according to a calculator I found are 570k ohm. Should these be used here or do I need to order replacements?

Why don't you measure them with your meter and see what value they really are?

LOL! That would be the obvious way to check to resistance, wouldn't it!? I guess my brain was fried after a long build session. They are indeed 470k ohms. So I'm a little slow AND color blind! Good reminder to use the tools you have and not rush to google!

There is, I believe, an answer other than you being colorblind. I have a little side business redyeing motorcycle leathers. My specialty is adding hi visibility colors to the original color scheme. Thus I do a lot of hi viz yellow and red. For those of you who FB, here is a link to pics of my own suit -

"Redyeing" is a misnomer, leather is mostly painted with a special acrylic paint that is very flexible these days. To lay some neon yellow on a suit that is dark I have to lay on several coats of white first, as yellow paint (the color of a "4" stripe) is often translucent and will mix with the background color. Red does this too, just not to the same degree. I'm guessing this is a resistor with a blue body. On a blue resistor yellow striping paint can look quite green (color of a '5" stripe).

The other clue is that you won't normally find a 570 ohm resistor; the E-12 series goes 470, 560, 680, 820, 1K.


(Note also that it ends on a power of 10, so the series is the same at 4.7K, 5.6K, 6.8K, etc., which is handy.)
