12AU7 won't sit snug into the 9pin socket

No amount of fidgeting or firm downward pressure is helping.  Both tubes glow when checked,
even with this 9pin out as far as it is.

Using the 9pin converter that I have, I had to very uncomfortably force it down into groove and it settled in. Is this common?

Those pin holes appear to have solder in them. I would suggest heating them up one at a time to melt the solder and either using solder wick from the underside to draw some out or blow in the hole to try to force the liquified solder down and out.

Re the converter, it sounds like its pins are too big.
