The plate voltage in the Mainline is set to maximize output power.  Since there is some bias voltage on the cathode, the actual plate voltage is a bit lower.

The voltage is chosen to match the available positive and negative plate voltage excursions, based on the regulated 225v supply. That 225v is chosen to allow reasonable power line fluctuations without losing the regulation, and without excessive heat dissipation in the regulator C4S's plate load. (The power supply is the same as the Eros.)

I didn't see PB's post before I wrote mine, so apologies for the overlap.

Thanks for the explanation. Makes sense to me.

Question is it ok to connect two sets of headphones at the same time, one SE and the other Balanced??

or is this not a good idea?

Alex

Oops, I thought I answered this, sorry for the delay.

It would be best to use either the 1/4" jack or the 4 pin jack.  It's not a problem to split the output of either provided you are using two identical pairs of headphones and their impedances are reasonably high (I'd try to stay over 50 Ohms if possible).

I don't think you will get quadraphonic sound that way
