Got around to cladding my new SII in 30 ga copper sheet, with copper "hats" for the PC3's. Photo is not the best (taken with an old phone), but it conveys the essence of it.

It is still shiny, but will turn a deeper copper red/brown with time.  I am pretty pleased with how it turned out.

If I ever get a Kaiju I will use brass.

cheers,

Derek

Looks great Derek!  I really like the look and I don’t believe I have seen another one like it.
Enjoy!

Wow, that looks great!  I can only imagine how much time it took.

Thanks Ken, Jamie and PB.

@Paul Birkeland - only about 6 hrs or so.  30 ga will readily bend over a hard square edge to 90 - no press brake needed.  I just clamped it between two pieces of melamine (ikea type stuff) and used  the SII wooden base (which is always the exact length of the bend you are making) to fold the copper to 90. Cuts with heavy duty scissors (I used my kitchen shears b/c they left a nice edge) and a heavy duty utility knife where the scissors can't reach or would warp the copper.  You just need to be careful to keep the sheet supported at all times to prevent creases.

Added benefit: it acts as a heat sink for the top plate.  The copper gets warm (but not hot).

And I suppose it acts a shield too -- for EMI, RFI and UFOs.  I may make myself a copper "clear thinking" hat with the leftovers  ;D
