I spent the last few weeks trying to figure out where a high pitched noise was coming from.  I tried changing components out to rule out a particular amp or preamp.  I began to think it was environmental because it was worse in the evening than the morning, but couldn't localize a source.  It was getting to be where I didn't want to listen to music

I finally realized I was able to hear the sound even without the system on, but critical listening seemed to make it worse.  I stopped taking a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory like motrin/ibuprofen and suddenly the sound decreased.  I hope it will continue to get better.  Tinnitus is not an uncommon side effect of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

I still listen to thousands of $ of equipment with $100 ears, but without the loud tinnitus it much more enjoyable.

Thanks, good info. I lean a little too heavily on the ibuprofen myself to fend off the dull background pain from old injuries. As my mother used to say, getting old is not for sissies.

Chronic consistent use of moderate doses of anti-inflammatory drugs like motrin (ibuprofin), naproxin, alleve (naprosyn sodium), etc., can impact kidney function so it is important to monitor your creatinine if you are taking it daily for extended period of time (more than a few weeks to a month).

Debk,
I love your comment "I still listen to thousands of $ of equipment with $100 ears". That is me except I think I have at best $50 ears. When I was young... many moons a go, I used a 22 cal nail gun to install studs onto a cement floor in a brick building... I was around 19 or so and didn't think anything of it at the time. I have lived with it for the rest of my life! But, I still enjoy great audio!
