That style will work. IIRC it's not exactly the same in terms of linearity, but we used to use them for a few years before PJ discovered that the little square ones are a bit more linear at lower currents. I think. Maybe PJ will weigh in.

The other possibility is to wire both cathodes together (A3, A8) to run through the single LED you have left. You will see that described in many posts in this forum.

I received this kit as a repair and found a solder bridge on one MJE350 transistor.
