Well, you can put the jumper back between the middle lugs of that pot.  If that solves the problem, there's an issue with the wiring or the soldering between the jacks and the pot.  Feel free to post build photos if you can.

Problem solved! Wohooo!

A quick summary:
I did a resistance measurement at the pot left and right output and found the resistance doesn't match. There seems to be a short at the ground and output of left channel at the pot (upper left and upper mid lug). The short still presents when RCA is de-soldered which means the solder bridge is probably not at the RCA socket.
I remade and re-soldered the (blue and blue strip) cables and voila! problem solved!
