Hello, I need to know if this potentiometer is still good. It looks terrible and has burns. If it can be salvage how do I go about testing it? It's ugly that's why I'm rewiring it.

To test the pot you would set your meter to measure resistance and measure the resistance between each outer pair of lugs on each level of the pot, then set the pot rotation about in the middle and check the resistance between each middle lug and the two lugs next to it.

Based on your photo, I would replace that pot just based on where solder has gotten.

Thanks Paul. I'm much better at solding now thankfully.

I'd snip off what I could. Flow the solder and give it a shake to remove it. Cosmetically it should come up OK but test as per Doc's instructions. I think it will be fine.
