Hello all.  I recently received some new capacitors to try and unfortunately they must be pre-owned as on one side of each the lead is half as long as the other. What would be the recommended method to attach these? My plan is to snip the old caps out (leaving some length) and then j-hook both new and old leads and solder the new caps in place.

Does this sound like a worthwhile fix, or does it make more sense to get a refund and purchase again, hoping for full length leads?

What are the caps in question? Have you contacted the seller?

I would not mount them to the stubs of the old caps leads.

Thanks for the reply.

They are Mundorf Supreme Evo Aluminum Oil. I ended up crimping together and soldering some of the excess lead from the other side. So, it's the same gauge and same wire the cap comes with. I also soldered it. Seems sturdy enough but please let me know if this is too janky and I should just get a replacement cap.

Yes, that is pretty janky and those caps are poorly supported.  Also buying 800V rated caps will mean that they are going to be too big to fit properly and the extra voltage margin isn't doing anything for you other than draining your wallet.

If you want Mundorfs, I would go for the classics that carry the appropriate voltage rating and aren't so enormous.

Thanks for the feedback.  I will take another route then. I few folks had recommended these caps but your concerns feel not worth it.  I may look for smaller options.  I had not worked on zip tie supports yet but that was in the works.  Thanks again.

Looking at the M-cap web site, I see that those caps come from the factory with one lead shorter than the other.

10uf v-cap ODAM are a much nicer fit.  (I left the leads untrimmed for now).

Did you listen to the amp stock before making the change? Interested in how much of a difference it made.

Yes, for about 2 weeks? Really didn't have any complaints with stock, I just have itchy fingers. I haven't had time to listen to these caps yet. Apparently they take a while to burn in but I'll report back after that.

Mundorf M-Cap Supreme's are a perfect fit in my experience (note we're talking about the non EVO ones).

Yeah, the Supremes are much smaller in diameter but longer. Very good fit.
