...'cuz I don't use it much anymore, with music servers and all.  I pulled it out of the rack in the family room, marveling at just how heavy it was, and set it on the floor in my office, figuring that it would be safe there until I retrieved the original packaging from the garage attic.

It would have been safe there, except for the fact that I'd spent most of the day looking at it.  Then I'd look over at the Crack, sitting on my desk, hooked to my PC DAC.  Then, I'd look back over at the A308.  Then back at the Crack.  Then back at the A308... and... what's over there, on the bookshelf?  A set of 1m AudioQuest Copperheads in the original packaging?  And - how convenient! - the Nanuk 945 travel case for my Panny video camera is a perfect "stand" for the A308, laid down flat, and the Crack fits nicely on top, and the interconnects go here, here, there and there.  A little power, plug in the Senns and... OMG.

The Musical Fidelity A308CD is not going anywhere, yet.  :-)  Amazing combo; listening to Donald Fagen's "Kamakiriad" and I can say that I've NEVER ever heard what goes on at ~1m46s before; Fagen's voice singing, the female backup singer voicing "...my Jackie was the best..." over the top... oh, my God.

I only wish that I'd had a Crack <teehee> ten years ago, when my ears still worked correctly.  Amazing, gents.  Just amazing.  Thanks again!

Don

Don,

You have an sickness.  There is a 12 step program, buy more music, buy more music....

Nice for an older piece, nice piece by the way, to find a new home.

I just couldn't bear looking that the poor old thing sitting there, not making music.  How sad it that?  :-)

Now the only problem is that I need another Crack - maybe this time with a Speedball?

You're right, Grainger.  I need medical attention... soon.  I promise.  Soon...

I must be the only person in the world who doesn't own an ipod, let alone a music server.  At some point I will make the move in that direction, right now, I'm still liking music via an AH! Tjoeb CDP that has been highly modified.   Then there's my Rotel RCD 1072 that is no slouch.

Some day I will step into the water...

No Jim, there are a number of old farts like you and me here.  No iPod or smart phone.  Shoot, my phone doesn't have a camera, text, access the internet....   I love technology but not just for technology sake.

I'm too am a last of a breed. I don't text and I still wear a wrist watch. On the bright side, I have systems that will reproduce music that touches my soul and that can not be done on a compressed music Ipod w/earbuds.

Jim, I also own an Ah! Tjoeb cdp, which I have done a few mods. as well. ie replace the rca'c, used high grade wire to connect the rca's to the printed circuit board, now prepairing to install the upsampler, then will be  replacing the coupling caps. Would you be interested in sharing what mods. you have done?

Bernie.

Coca:

All the mods were done before I got her and through Kevin Deal who is the US Importer.  The previous owner had a 99 totally revamped with a better power supply, set up with E288CC's, balanced line out to go to an external DAC and even upgraded the onboard DAC.  Unfortunately, he didn't opt for an IEC plug which surprises me.   To accomodate the E288CC's a small retangular hole had to be made in the top.

It holds its own with CDP costing well into the thousands, just doesn't have the eye appeal (unless you like the two amber/reddish glowing things sticking out of it!).

Grainger, it's nice to know that I'm not alone in the world!
